Netflix’s ‘Hot Frosty’ Surpasses ‘The Godfather’ in Initial Rotten Tomatoes Rating

In the festive season, Netflix has unveiled its latest holiday film, “Hot Frosty,” which, upon release, astonishingly achieved a higher Rotten Tomatoes score than the cinematic classic “The Godfather.”

As the holiday season approaches, streaming platforms like Netflix begin to release their annual lineup of festive films, providing audiences with new content to enjoy during the celebrations.

Among these releases, “Hot Frosty” has garnered significant attention and praise from viewers. One enthusiastic viewer remarked, “This is going into my Christmas film rotation,” indicating the film’s potential to become a seasonal favorite.

Another viewer expressed delight, stating, “Why was this actually so funny, I loved it,” highlighting the film’s comedic appeal. A third viewer shared, “This movie made me laugh so much. I’m so genuinely glad I watched it,” underscoring the film’s entertainment value.

The film has also resonated on an emotional level, with a viewer commenting, “Yes, I loved it and actually got emotional over it,” suggesting that the narrative offers depth beyond humor.

Critics have responded positively as well. Jack King of GQ noted, “Amid its galaxy-brained silliness is a genuinely beautiful message about the human experience, and how we never forget the people we loved. Christmas is for little else,” emphasizing the film’s underlying heartfelt themes.

Adrian Horton of The Guardian added, “It is absolutely among the top tier of the holiday feel-good movie list. It has heart, pathos, humor, and just enough of a shirtless Dustin Milligan to melt any cold hearts,” praising the film’s balance of emotional and comedic elements.

Archika Khurana of The Times of India observed, “It offers a refreshing twist on the holiday romantic comedy genre, blending cheeky humor with emotional depth to create a genuinely heartwarming film,” highlighting the film’s innovative approach to the genre.

Upon its debut, “Hot Frosty” achieved a perfect 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, surpassing “The Godfather,” which holds a 97% rating. Although the rating has since adjusted to a commendable 88%, the film’s initial reception indicates strong approval from critics.

The film has also dominated Netflix charts in both the U.S. and the U.K. since its release, reflecting its popularity among streaming audiences.

Directed by Jerry Ciccoritti and penned by writer Russell Hainline, “Hot Frosty” features a notable cast. Dustin Milligan, known for his role in “Schitt’s Creek,” stars alongside Lacey Chabert, famed for her performance in “Mean Girls.” The ensemble also includes Lauren Holly, Katy Mixon Greer, Joe Lo Truglio, and Craig Robinson. Additionally, the film includes a cameo from Lindsay Lohan, adding to its star-studded lineup.

The narrative centers on a young widow who discovers a magical scarf that brings a charming snowman to life. As the story unfolds, the snowman assists her in rediscovering romance, laughter, and holiday cheer, all while facing the impending reality of his temporary existence.

“Hot Frosty” delves into themes of grief and the challenges of coping with the loss of a loved one, offering a comedic yet poignant exploration of healing during the holiday season.

In an interview, screenwriter Hainline shared the inspiration behind the film’s concept: “What if Frosty the Snowman came to life and, instead of a snowman, he was a super hot dude? Everyone I told would almost always reply: Yeah, that should be a movie,” illustrating the film’s imaginative premise.

The film’s trailer is available for viewing, providing audiences with a glimpse into this unique holiday story.
