Julia Ann, a well-known veteran in the adult film industry, has made waves by revealing the reason behind her decision to stop filming scenes with male partners. Since her debut in 1992, she has become one of the most respected names in the business, gaining admiration for her talent, longevity, and professionalism. Beginning her career as part of the iconic stripping duo ‘Blondage’ alongside Janine Lindemulder, she later earned a spot in the Brazzers Hall of Fame.
Throughout her career, Ann has witnessed numerous shifts in the industry, but one of her most personal changes has been her choice to film exclusively with women. While speaking on the Holly Randall Unfiltered podcast, hosted by renowned adult film director Holly Randall, she shared insight into this significant decision.

Fans and industry insiders alike were taken aback by her revelation, sparking a wave of reactions across social media. Many expressed shock, while others defended her choice. One commenter remarked, “It’s incredible how many people fail to grasp the complexities of the female body.” Another added, “Most of these men must have skipped their biology lessons!” Others took a more defensive stance, with one fan pointing out, “People are so quick to judge her for her career, yet they act as if they’ve never made questionable choices themselves.”
During her discussion with Randall, Ann touched on the scrutiny faced by partners of adult performers. Randall noted that many of her listeners are intrigued by how adult film actors manage their relationships, both within and outside of the industry. Ann, however, dismissed the idea that adult performers’ partners are all affected by jealousy or insecurity. “People love to assume that any man in a relationship with an adult performer is somehow being disrespected,” she said. “But sometimes, they genuinely don’t care, and they are secure enough not to feel threatened.”
But the biggest bombshell of the interview came when Ann disclosed her personal reasons for stepping away from working with male actors.

She clarified that this decision had nothing to do with her husband, who is not involved in the adult industry and has never expressed jealousy over her career. “He knew exactly who I was from the start,” Ann stated. “He’s not a jealous person, and this decision was entirely my own.”
Her primary reason? A matter of comfort and control over her body. “As I got older and continued working, I started realizing how much more comfortable I felt filming with women,” she admitted. “When I’m working with a female co-star, I have control over how I position myself. I can make it look a certain way, I can be playful and make adjustments.”
However, with male co-stars, she felt she had less control over how her body appeared on camera. “Let’s be real—when a guy is behind you, there’s a lot happening. I can feel every movement, and I have no control over how my body looks in the moment.”

Ann also acknowledged that aging in the industry played a role in her decision. “I’ve never been a fan of the gym, and as I got older, I realized I couldn’t dictate where my body fat was going anymore,” she said. “And honestly, I was scared of how aging would impact my career.”

Randall, who has been directing and working in the industry for over two decades, empathized with Ann’s concerns. “Seasoned male performers are trained to maneuver their co-stars into different positions to make things look more appealing on camera. That’s great when you’re young, petite, and look perfect from every angle,” Randall explained.

Ann agreed, adding, “After menopause, your body doesn’t move the way it used to. It changes in ways that you don’t always anticipate.”
Her candid explanation has led to an ongoing debate about aging, body image, and personal comfort within the adult film industry. While some critics continue to judge her choice, many fans and colleagues have come out in support of her transparency and willingness to share her experiences.
