Miley Cyrus has never been one to shy away from candid confessions, but her latest revelation about her past relationship with Liam Hemsworth has taken fans by surprise. In a recent interview, the singer opened up about a secret she kept from her ex-husband for almost ten years—a lie she told when she was just 16 that would eventually come back to haunt her.
The pop icon, now 32, recalled how she met Hemsworth on the set of The Last Song in 2010 when she was still a teenager. As their on-screen romance blossomed into real life, she felt pressure to impress him. Worried that the 19-year-old Australian actor would think less of her for being inexperienced, she decided to fabricate a story about her past.

“I didn’t want him to think I was some kind of loser,” Miley admitted. “So, I just made up a guy I knew and said I’d already lost my virginity to him. It felt like a harmless little white lie at the time.”
But what started as a simple fib turned into a long-running deception that she kept up for nearly a decade. Miley never imagined the truth would catch up to her—until it did in the most unexpected way.
Years later, when she was 24, Liam confronted her about her past after discovering that one of his close friends was marrying the man she had falsely claimed as her first.
“Liam came to me and said, ‘Now my friend is marrying the guy you hooked up with.’ That’s when I had to finally admit that I’d lied when I was 16,” she revealed, laughing at the absurdity of the situation.
But her honesty didn’t stop there. Miley also opened up about another part of her past that she had never shared with Hemsworth—her early experiences with women.

“I was attracted to girls long before I was ever interested in guys,” she admitted. “When I was around 11 or 12, my friends were all talking about their experiences with boys, and I didn’t really get it. So, I convinced most of my girlfriends to hook up with me instead.”
The Flowers singer even disclosed that her first romantic encounters were with two girls. “The first time I ever hooked up with anyone was with a girl—actually, two of them,” she said, adding that their interactions went “past first base.”
Despite her early exploration of her sexuality, Miley explained that she didn’t have sex with a man until she was 16. “But I ended up marrying the guy, so that’s pretty crazy when you think about it.”
Miley and Liam’s whirlwind relationship captivated fans for years. After a decade of breakups and reconciliations, they tied the knot in 2018. However, their marriage was short-lived, and less than a year later, they announced their split.

At the time, a representative for the couple stated that they had decided to part ways to focus on their careers and personal growth. Since then, Miley has continued to be open about her experiences, often reflecting on the lessons she learned from her time with Liam.
Even though their love story ended, her latest revelation offers a fascinating glimpse into the complexities of young romance, insecurities, and the unexpected ways the truth can come out—sometimes, nearly a decade later.
