What It Takes to Live Long and Well, Revealed by 105-Year-Old Japanese Physician

When it comes to life’s longevity, it seems that Japanese people know all about it. In fact, an old Japanese physician named Shigeaki Hinohara listed 11 daily habits you should incorporate in your routine if you want to live long. His advice is worth taking into consideration as he made up this list when he was 97 years old and he passed away when he was 105.

  1. Practice healthy eating. In fact, research has shown that people who are slimmer live longer than those who are overweight. Dr. Shigeaki Hinohara made sure that he had a nutritious diet and drank orange juice mixed with olive oil each day because it made his arteries healthy.
  2. Everyday exercise opportunities. You don’t have to go to gym in order to exercise. Experts say that it is completely enough to choose climbing stairs than taking the lift. In addition, instead of driving to a store, you can choose to walk there. In fact, if you choose to walk short distances instead of driving your car, scientists agree that you are already exercising.
  3. Embrace your youth. Another thing Dr. Shigeaki Hinohara stated as important in order to live longer is to feel as young as possible. The younger you feel, the more energized you will be.
  4. Stay occupied. You will lead a longer life if you make sure that there is no place for boredom in your routine. Dr. Shigeaki Hinohara liked to organize his work so that he would be as active and occupied as possible.
  5. Contribute to society. Another way how you can live longer is to volunteer. If you help those in need, you will feel better about yourself, too.
  6. Share what you know. When we share our knowledge, we make the world more powerful. Dr. Shigeaki Hinohara gave at least 100 lectures each year.
  7. Every discipline has value. Although he was a scientist, Dr. Shigeaki Hinohara didn’t think that it was enough to claim that he knows it all. He knew that all illnesses affect emotions and he advised his patients to explore them, in addition to treating them medically.
  8. Follow your instincts. In order to live longer, you need to develop your inner voice and listen to it more often.
  9. Forget materialism. Dr. Shigeaki Hinohara was never focused on things because it never led him to eternal happiness. Also, he believed that it was not practical to focus on material things because you never know when you are going to lose it all.
  10. Seek what inspires you. It is important to have passions in life as they also lead to longer life span.
  11. Have fun. You should be as joyous as possible. You should make sure that you have enough fun in life because you never know when it is going to end.
