Marina Smith, a 34-year-old social media influencer from São Paulo, Brazil, has claimed she was deliberately excluded from her circle of friends’ annual Christmas dinner because of her appearance. According to Marina, her friends fear she might become a source of temptation for their partners, leading to a decision to leave her out of the festive gathering.
The situation reportedly unfolded after a friend’s boyfriend mentioned the exclusion in passing, revealing Marina had been intentionally left out of the WhatsApp group created for the holiday planning. This exclusion, according to Marina, was not accidental but a conscious decision made by her friends due to concerns that her looks might distract or attract their significant others.
The former Miss BumBum titleholder shared her feelings about the snub during an interview with MailOnline. Expressing her disappointment, she explained: “I have been deliberately excluded from the Christmas dinner plans because the women think I might steal their men or attract too much attention from them during the party.”
Marina, who has been single since early 2024 following the end of a relationship due to financial disagreements, expressed frustration with the assumptions being made about her character. Though she admits there are challenges to singlehood, she insists she is far from desperate for male attention.
“I’m quite particular about the men I engage with romantically. I’m in no hurry to settle down, nor do I feel the need to be in a relationship just for the sake of it,” she clarified.
The social media star expressed feeling deeply hurt and betrayed upon discovering that her friends had purposefully left her out of the celebration plans. She felt this exclusion was not only unfair but reflected insecurities within her friend group rather than any actions of her own.
“Being single already restricts my opportunities to spend time with friends, as most of them are now in relationships and spend time with their partners. But being both single and attractive seems to have become an additional issue for them. It feels like they see my appearance as a threat,” Marina explained, clearly disheartened.
Despite the exclusion, Marina made it clear she has never disrespected her friends’ relationships. She strongly denied any inappropriate behavior towards their partners and described the accusations as unfair and hurtful.
“I always respect the boundaries of other people’s relationships. I’ve never made advances toward their partners. The idea that I would intentionally seek attention in this way is ridiculous. It feels like their insecurity and jealousy are driving these assumptions,” she said.
Marina has decided to directly address the situation with her friends, as she believes the exclusion was unjustified and disrespectful. However, she remains steadfast in her decision not to attend even if they reverse their choice.
“At this point, even if they were to extend an invitation, my response would be a firm no. I’ve been treated unfairly, and I’d rather spend Christmas alone in peace than feel uncomfortable at a gathering where I’m clearly unwelcome. Yes, I’m a beautiful woman, but that’s not a valid reason to exclude me,” she declared firmly.
The influencer also defended her personal style and choice of appearance, emphasizing that the issue lies not with her but with the perceptions others have. She expressed frustration over the criticism directed at her clothing choices and appearance.
“The problem here isn’t me or the way I choose to dress and present myself. The issue is with certain men who perceive me as ‘too beautiful to be real.’ That perception is their problem, not mine,” Marina stated, standing her ground.
While the exclusion has been hurtful, Marina acknowledged that the ordeal has revealed a valuable truth about her friendships. The situation, she believes, has exposed who her true friends really are, as those who genuinely care for her would never have supported such behavior.
